11/4/10 Hi girls you should be doing some preparation for your internal. You will present your research like a report. Specifically, you should be coming up with your
Aim- this will be based on the sub title of the Achievement Standard 3.5.
Hypothesis- that you will base on an oligopoly market structure unless you choose some other situation which must be approved by me.
You should also be collecting information (data, media items etc) on your chosen situation, the four features you will discuss and thinking about your your survey. Survey tips: consider adding question types like Male/ Female, age, income so you can use it in graphs etc in your analysis and interpretation. Please bring your handouts for the internal to school at the beginning of term 2...

If I was doing this assessment, here is what I would do:
In the booklet with the AS on the front turn to the planning sheets:
The Aim will be the same as the AS title
The hypothesis will need to be reflected in your chosen features and in your survey questions.

Designing your Survey
Make sure your survey for people has the opening statement. You must survey a minimum of 30 people. Include questions on your 4 chosen features and that align with your hypothesis.
Include questions that target:
main company they purchase from
a table with factors relating to the hypothesis and oligopoly, and a spectrum of very important to not very important
The report must contain information on where, when, time and number of people you surveyed. When I have checked your final survey I will photocopy it for you.

Do not use personal pronouns ( I, we, me etc) in the report.
How to use sources in your report text
To paraphrase an authors work:
According to Evans (2000) oligopolies have a few large firms.
For two authors:
Evans & Brown (2000) believe…
For a direct quote:
Most oligopolists are usually “ …competing firms will use non-price strategies…”, Evans (2000).
The … shows that the quote has been taken out of a sentence, i.e. a break in the text.
How to do an APA reference list
This should be in alphabetical order.
Surname first, with the first name initial.
Date of publication.
The title should be italised.
The city of printing comes after the title.
The publisher comes after the city. This can usually be found on the first few pages of a book. It is different to the printer.
e.g.APA reference for a book:
Evans, G. (2000).
When referencing online websites/sources. If there is an author use it, if it is a government agency use that. The retrieval date must also be included.
